Kyleakin Lofts Posted July 1, 2016 Report Posted July 1, 2016 My grandfather fought in this war and he lost his brother in one of the battles. I am sure many of us know the debt of gratitude we owe to our forebears. It is incumbent on us to ensure that our children and grandchildren also become aware of the sacrifice made by those who were involved in this and the following war. They took part and the overall hope was that it would be a war to end all wars.Let us hope we reach that utopian state of a world without war. Only by learning from the lessons of the past will this ever be achieved. WE CAN NEVER FORGET THEM. We will remember them.

Guest newcomer Posted July 2, 2016 Report Posted July 2, 2016 I hope it will never be forgotten by any generation, especially in the future, the courage and the cost of those young men effecting nearly every family and this country as well as our allies who paid the same price through out the world. I lost a Grand Father at this battle and sadly I never got the chance to meet or know him. I was very lucky to have had another Grand Dad that did survive this and a Father that survived the second world war. I also hope that these peoples sacrifices will enable the human race one day to resolve our differences without a repeat of either of these event. I was born a soldiers son and I watched the ceremony on the television at the Somme and I was moved and I know my fore fathers would have been proud of the way the tribute was handled.
