after returning to the sport after an 8 year break,

We paired 9 pairs of stock birds on the 28th of november 2015.

We now have 18 young birds flying out and doing great (yes that's right 18 youngsters off 9 pair.... 100 percent hatch rate)

since then we bought some new birds in at Doncaster and Blackpool and now have 11 pairs of stock.

The new birds are on their first round and the others are on their 2nd round, we had 22 eggs (all pairs laid) and we've just 6 eggs left to hatch now.

so in total (if all goes well) we should have 40 youngsters, when this round has been weaned and I'll be separating all the stock birds.

As I say I'm just coming back into the sport and have no old birds, just stock.

I just thought I'd let you all know and can't wait for the young bird season to start.

Best of luck Jason :)

cheers mate

I feel I should say, I'm putting the youngsters on the dark this coming week.

and my new young bird loft is set up so I can race them on the roundabout system (hence the breeding early to make them sexually mature)....but we'll see about that nearer the time.

I've had such a good breeding season, I'm just waiting for something to go wrong and fall flat on my face.

When I had mine on darkness found that if I did not darken then at spaining they would start to throw flights

I have been told that its a lot harder to win in our club, Todmorden H.S. is as strong as ever with 18 flying members at the moment.

so I'll have to pull my finger out and show them how its done

thanks for the kind words everyone.

looks good,is that loft built of osb boarding??

atb

the loft is built from osb boards, the roof and back are felted and the ends and the front are stained with creosote and old engine oil.

I had the youngsters out for an hour this morning and whilst waiting for the last few to drop in, I thought I'd take some photos of the front of the loft.....

the tin roof in front of the loft is the roof of my old bird loft (which is currently housing my stock birds)....which will be being altered when the weather gets a bit better.
