slim45 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 72/72 from dunbar got my last two this morning seems nearly everyone got good returns
walterboswell59 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Being boxed in on three sides with houses my birds almost always land on the tiles and head for the gutters for a drink. Their is nothing I can do about it and accept it as part and parcel of racing. Whether they are recieving water on the transporter is any ones guess however I would at no time blame the convoyer for MY failure to learn them to drink while in a basket. It has already been said == Look In Your Mirror.no one blamed convoyer there are other reasons for birds being thirsty heat being one of them as for looking in the mirror if you cast your mind back it was me that told you how to train your youngbirds to drink in the basket but it was not a very warm day on saturday thats what made me wonder why so many went to the drinker first before eating
walterboswell59 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 heres one for you there are very few ybs that take a drink and maybe if they took time to train them drink it would help them and losses ? jmoi agree with you john and im one of the guys that take the time to train them to drink its easy done and well worth the effort m8 hope your keeping better
bullcock Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I had one pigeon went to gutters for a drink before entering loft, the rest were fine and acted great on return. 34/36All mines go to the roof first and some go to the gutter for a drink, the joys of open hole. Lol
tiger Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 i agree with you john and im one of the guys that take the time to train them to drink its easy done and well worth the effort m8 hope your keeping better walter when watering the young birds on transporter there are very few that take a drink ? and i think thats why there so many losses .jmo
bullcock Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 walter when watering the young birds on transporter there are very few that take a drink ? and i think thats why there so many losses .jmoWe used to keep them in a basket for two days to learn to drink, but don't do it now, every animal knows how to find water, they can find the drinker when weaned, they can find water in the gutters, so should find it in the basket, dehydration when liberated will kill most birds, the key is to give them pleny of time sitting with the drinkers on them.JMO
walterboswell59 Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 walter when watering the young birds on transporter there are very few that take a drink ? and i think thats why there so many losses .jmoyou maybe right john but must surely help to show them how m8 we have drinkers on the baskets in the the club house when basketting and seen some drink ok from them lanarkshires drinkers are full lenth of the basket to so birds have every chance if they want to drink but the guys cant make them drink mores the pity lol
peter pandy Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 Never suggested I did not train my birds to drink when in a basket NOR have I ever suggested convoyers are to blame. What I will put to you is If you basket train them to drink from a metal drinker do you not think it becomes confusing for the birds when they are presented with different coloured plastic drinkers also I train in wicker baskets and race from aluminium crates switching to wicker baskets for other races which are mainly dark compared to what they are used to. Youngsters to my mind are confused with differences in transportation.

bullcock Posted August 2, 2015 Report Posted August 2, 2015 I like most train in wicker baskets and mines have had plenty of training, but the first time in the Geraldy aluminum crates they where banging their heads off the roof, they quickly settled though.
