They need more hours darkness than light and for example you could open up the loft to let the light in at 0730 and then darken at 1830 that way you have 11 hours light and 13 dark

If u give only 8 hours dark the pigeons will not hold their wing, as it is not the darkness system. The darkness system only works if u provide more hours dark then light

Hi all, I have another question about the dark system. I have my birds on the dark, they get lightened when I get home from work which is 5 and they go dark when the sun goes down. Could I lighten my birds at say 6 in the morning before I go to work for an hour and then put them back on the dark until I get back from work at 5 when I open them up again for evening exercise until the sun goes down? Basically it will be 2 days in one for them won't it. Will it be ok.

hope I've explained properly

thank

Shaun

Ok. So we have a Dark, and A light system ... which ever one decides suits them best.

But who's to say that the youngster have to be born early for that system. Surely it is the same principle regardless of month of year! No? Likewise one can fly old birds on the Dark System too.
