Guest Jimmybhoy Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Hi, guys first post ever and I'm racing for the first time this year and brand new to the sport.I have two old birds both cocks that I bred last year all my other old birds are prisoners that I have bought from louella to start me off and give me my yb team for this year and next years old birds.I am happy with how things are going and hopefully I will have a total of 20 ybs to race this season some of which I have bred myself and some I've been gifted by a kind local fancier at my club who is also new to pigeon racing in his second season. I have put the youngsters on the darkness system and I'm very much looking forward to testing them in the club and there coming along well.I am hoping that I may be able to send the two old cock birds to the odd short inland race during the old bird season to gain some experience , the birds were thoroughly trained as ybs and I give them a 25 mile toss every morning weather permitting mon-Friday.In Our race program Where I love in Southampton there are only two race points inland and then it's over to guernsey and France most of the France races are 150-300miles to me, and Guernsey is 144 is it too much for these cocks to rear young and race these distances ? There are 6-8 races to the inland points and I'd like to send these old cocks if possible.Any help would be appreciated and I'm hoping you guys can give me a few pointers as I don't want to unduly stress the birds but I want to put these two old cocks in my ob widowhood team that I plan to select from this years ybs that do well in the yb races hopefully anyway that's the plan I figure the more races under there belt and the more experience they get should help them.

Kennybhoy Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 If the ybs are to small I wouldn't send ay hens but cocks NO PROBLEMS as I'll hahave to do this myself this season as most of the ybs will be too small in the nest year the hens will go the second or third race m8 as I've no problems jumping pigeons..atb kennybhoy
Roland Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 personally I'd allow them to rear a nest. Gives them a better binding with their home. Then you will have at least a pair of youngsters more reared via two - in case you lose them. Their are come back races you can start them off with. Mind, like all, I remember only too well the hitching to get started lol. Good luck whatever you decide.
chrissyboy1 Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 I wouldn't recommend racing and rearing,if you think anything of the youngsters you are breeding you will leave the parents at home.
