Walter swanston Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 I bought six good looking young pigeons at a sale last weekend because I liked the appearance of them. I had misgivings because I thought they were about 10 to 14 days too old and would be hard to settle. Now they are enthusiastically bouncing about in the aviary desperate to fly out I fear that when liberated it will be goodbye. You would think at my age I should know better. Will I never learn!!
Tony C Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 Soap their wings down with washing up liquid then let them out, nothing ventured nothing gained.
greenbar Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 we are whorse, than women at the sales,oh I like that,
blackswan Posted April 3, 2015 Report Posted April 3, 2015 i think that we have all been there i think i am the worlds worst best of luck anyway.
Roland Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 I'd wager you will keep at least 4 or 5 no sweat. Great if you could release them from the aviary and a tad hungry. To settle - or break a bird - they need to feel safe and have a bolt hole to clamour back in. A open hole, or a open door.
billt Posted April 4, 2015 Report Posted April 4, 2015 Walter I never let my youngsters out very early and rarely lose one, this started many years ago when I was building a new y/bird loft, there were 15 of them bursting to get out, when I opened up they came out like greyhounds and off, it took 3 days to get them all back in, they all raced the full y/bird programme and I finished the season with 14 of them left winning the y/bird Fed.averages, so be brave and rely on their built in inteligence
