andy Burgess Posted January 26, 2015 Report Posted January 26, 2015 last time we were up your way Ally .when we caught up briefly . i picked 1 up out of the road on Mull .it was getting some attention from a cow. i wrapped it in the boys coat ,fed it chicken when we got back , it had a broken wing so we got it to Ardnamurchan (rescue place) .

Was surprised as it was daylight but they were definitely owls. Don't think I need bother trying to feed this one as will let it away tomorrow as I said but did the one you got eat without any trouble? billt Posted January 27, 2015 Report Posted January 27, 2015 Well done Ally, It's a Tawny owl, the one's you saw hunting in the day would be Short-eared owls, they are diurnal.

Don't think I need bother trying to feed this one as will let it away tomorrow as I said but did the one you got eat without any trouble? it merely picked at the chicken , didnt really eat as such , which is why we sought out a rescue centre . this may have been due to shock and the injury , it was a youngster with a broken wing .

When I was at my grans house in Arran during the summer we heard some strnge hissing coming from the roof of the old byre. Couldn't figure out what it was, thought maybe a cat or something. Pushed the mobile phone up on a stick and toock a picture. Got a cracking surprise to see these wee things. We spent the fortnight watching the parent flying in and out feeding them
