Walter swanston Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 OK here is where I get slagged off by the experts. After about 5 years of doing things the proper way with the very best of advice on pairing up I.e. Cocks locked in boxes ,fronts securely fitted, hens introduced after great preparation etc.etc.I have reverted to the way which was most successful for me in the past pigeons chose their own mates and build nests all over the place, corridors, corners even one or two in nest boxes absolutely haphazard.I know this is frowned upon by serious fanciers but the doos seem happy and so am I."

I often do the same just make sure nest mates don't pair, will be putting a few together myself and leaving the rest to pick there own.

WHITTY Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 WELL MY COCKS HAVE THIER ON BOXES ALL YEAR ROUND THE HENS ARE PUT IN THE BOXES AND THE COCKS LEFT OUT SIDE THE BOXES FOR2 TO 3 DAYS BY THE SECOND DAY THEY HAVE PAIRED UP THRUE THE FRONTS THE COCKS ARE THEN LET INTO THE BOXES WITH NO FIGHTING I HAVE DONE THIS FOR YEARS WITH GREAT SUCCESS
Kyleakin Lofts Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 Whatever floats your boat Walter. With an established family it shouldn't make that much difference and both you and the pigeons are happy. If you want a special pairing then you can sort it yourself.
C WRIGHT Posted January 7, 2015 Report Posted January 7, 2015 mine all paired up to my choice a lot of hard work and time only one hen had a hard time with a cock although he treads her he still wants to beat her up rest settled 3/4 days and in out own boxs god its more stressful on us than them lol
