REDCHEQHEN Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 If it is of any help to you, instead of using nobiliss I have used colombovac vaccine all this year. It is available from Belgica in England, price about £25 for 50 dose bottle. Hope this helps. Alastair Colombovac has not been available since January 2014 (the last ones to be manufactured had a January use by date on them)
We man Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 That's quite an arrogant and misleading statement. If it was a DEFRA Office that the fancier contacted to report a suspected paramyxo outbreak, their vets only test for paramyxo, and if they don't find it, then they are finished with the fancier and his birds - they don't look for anything else. As I posted earlier, if it has got to the stage that a team of birds is down with 'something' and birds are dying, then it is way beyond most fanciers' capabilities to deal with it and an avian vet should be brought in at the start, and before any 'blind treatment' is given that only queers the pitch. If the vet suspects paramyxo he will notify DEFRA and also take samples or sacrifice a bird for comprehensive testing at a laboratory qualified to do these tests. At the end of the day the vet and the fancier will both know what they are dealing with, and conversely what's not in the loft - that knowledge alone is well worth the money spent. Additionally, fanciers in the area will know of the outbreak and that it is being professionally dealt with. As has already been pointed out by others, any fancier who suspects paramyxo in the loft must inform DEFRA. And quarantine arrangements include no visitors to your loft, no visits to other fanciers lofts, and special disposal arrangements for dead birds, droppings etc. Otherwise the 'something' in the one loft spreads into the environment and / or to other lofts.IB,You will know that some time ago Tom Pennycott Veterinary Centre Auchincruive Ayr dealt with PMV some years ago and a friend of mine got every test possible covering pigeon disease including live birds being sent for autopsy all of this at no cost to the fancier,i could be wrong but think he got a grant from the SHU to do the great work he done,if so maybe rather than give money to charity we could get this grant given to him once more and carry on saving fanciers not only money but their birds, whats your thoughts?
