Stu3y Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 is it correct that you can have lime floors in the loft to help keep it dry and to keep bacteria etc away? im sure i read, or was told it, but i cant think where or who told me! if not, what do you use on your floors, anything or just leave it bare and scrape it?
philg50 Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 I did use sand an lime but it played hell with my breathing,so all i do is scrape every day ,if you then put a few handfulls chicken bedding ,it gathers round the walls of the loft and its all fine and dry ,I clean all this out once every 2-3 weeks.
Leroy Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 My loft is slightly below ground level and I've always had problem with damp at certain times of the year. Last year I bought respiro-san dry at Blackpool. It dries everything right up. It's not cheap, a £20 tub lasts me one year but I have a tiny race loft. I have another small loft with deep litter and when I remove large amounts of droppings I scatter the same stuff around to keep it dry. Lee
THE FIFER Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 I use floor white, its good if you brush it in, not loose to blow around, respiro-san dry as above sounds good,
Leroy Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 Hi Archie, yeah you need to brush it in, which makes it last longer too. I use it in the corners of nest boxes too. Has a nice menthol smell, although that doesn't last for long once you've applied it.
buster151 Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 I use the harkers one, think smell lasts a bit longer with that one and dries floor up really well, there is an offer on at moment with the san dry30pounds for a 15kg tub delivered
Kyleakin Lofts Posted April 26, 2014 Report Posted April 26, 2014 I use Respiro Sans Dry. Phil seems a decent chap.
bibendium Posted April 27, 2014 Report Posted April 27, 2014 I use hydrated lime on the floors brushed in daily.
