is it correct that you can have lime floors in the loft to help keep it dry and to keep bacteria etc away?

im sure i read, or was told it, but i cant think where or who told me! if not, what do you use on your floors, anything or just leave it bare and scrape it?

I did use sand an lime but it played hell with my breathing,so all i do is scrape every day ,if you then put a few handfulls chicken bedding ,it gathers round the walls of the loft and its all fine and dry ,I clean all this out once every 2-3 weeks.

My loft is slightly below ground level and I've always had problem with damp at certain times of the year. Last year I bought respiro-san dry at Blackpool. It dries everything right up. It's not cheap, a £20 tub lasts me one year but I have a tiny race loft. I have another small loft with deep litter and when I remove large amounts of droppings I scatter the same stuff around to keep it dry.

Hi Archie, yeah you need to brush it in, which makes it last longer too. I use it in the corners of nest boxes too. Has a nice menthol smell, although that doesn't last for long once you've applied it.

I use the harkers one, think smell lasts a bit longer with that one and dries floor up really well, there is an offer on at moment with the san dry

30pounds for a 15kg tub delivered

I use hydrated lime on the floors brushed in daily.

That's the way you can even mix it with sharp sand keeps the dust down

Leave it a couple of days in the winter cleans the floors a tr,eat

During racing statosan brushed on and swept out once a fortnight scraping out everyday during racing does the trick

Yes the brushing is the thing, I sometimes also do my box perches,
