Delboy Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 All these yb sales in March/April are a waste of time imo.The reason I say this is top fanciers are donating pigeons that are 3rd generation and getting very little money for them. It sometimes becomes embarrassing for them and the organisers and ive witnessed it even at the SNFC sales, many top fanciers ybs not getting a bid.Why don't all clubs/feds etc wait until later on in the year and get decent bred latebreds from the champions for their sales? It makes sense as everybody in March/April have plenty of ybs and aren't interested in buying any especially for stock.Nowadays everybody wants ybs early to darken etc but that has a knock on effect on the breeders.
andy Burgess Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 can understand your point of view Del. to me it seems there are too many sales at this time of year ,I also think some clubs may not survive the season if it were not for the added income from these sales
paddymac Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Spot on Derek, everything involved in pigeons these days is way too fast, everything has to to be for now and rushed. Darkness, early breeding, early training, early sales, just part of lifestyle these days. Like you have said I would rather wait and get a well reared latebred further on in the season.
Novice Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Another point is that there so many of these sales that supply has outstripped demand and therefore the birds are virtually given away. The breeder is not subsidising the club or organisation he is actually subsidising the buyer.
DJWa Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 is the main reason for march april y/b salesnot that the buyers can get the y/bs raced also breeder buyers etc etc the reason for latebred sales is mainly for future stock birdsthats why they can fetch higher prices (sometimes)
Delboy Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 is the main reason for march april y/b salesnot that the buyers can get the y/bs raced also breeder buyers etc etc the reason for latebred sales is mainly for future stock birdsthats why they can fetch higher prices (sometimes) The main reason for sales is to generate money for the cause, not to supply birds for racing, therefore latebred sales are always better because they are off direct winning birds and make more money.
Walter swanston Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 Could I ask respected fanciers such as Delboy and Walter Boswell and others if it is not time for a radical look at the whole system of pigeon racing in Scotland there is little doubt that the weather system is changing each year the spring is getting later and colder with strong east wings in mid April at the start of the season.Could there be a case for delaying the start of racing until early May with a consequent rearrangement of programmes.'
Delboy Posted April 10, 2014 Author Report Posted April 10, 2014 Most of the distance fliers would like racing delayed til 1st week in May Walter but im afraid these fanciers are in the minority. Pigeon racing has commenced mid April in Scotland for as long as I can remember and you know how hard it is to change things with so many set in their ways.
knoxjn Posted April 10, 2014 Report Posted April 10, 2014 as someone who gets it in the neck when there us a bad race I have said for the last couple of years that that season should be delayed but the nationals would have to give and put less emphasis on young bird racing and use the races to teach them rather than hammer them just my opinion sales are fast becoming a thing of the past
