BIGPETE Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 Hi Guys, I've got my first 4 pairs of birds bought now but some of them are on the old side. I am looking for 2 pairs of younger birds (ideally 1-3 years old to use as feeders to swap the eggs from the birds I have bought to the more youthful birds). If anybody can loan/give me 2 pairs it would be much appreciated. They are to be housed in the back section of the loft so there will be no escapee's flying out by accident so no fear about that. I can't afford to buy more birds, hence asking someone to do me a good turn. I can exchange for some pigeon books, videos or similar if that's of any use to anyone. If anyone can help me out please do drop me a PM. Cheers, Pete
geordie1234 Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 I prob will be able to help with a couple off pairs stock but not for a few months as I'm still breeding i have 13 pair of stock that won't be coming with me apart from a few
walterboswell59 Posted March 14, 2014 Report Posted March 14, 2014 what age are your birds pete my 18 yr old and 15 yrold are rearing a pair just now m8 keeps them happy and they make a good job of them
pjc Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 Just let what you have feed there own, If you bring new birds in now they are going to be more trouble than they are worth, broken eggs, fighting etc unless they will be in a separate section.
BIGPETE Posted March 15, 2014 Author Report Posted March 15, 2014 The oldest two are 8 and 9 year old cocks. Real stunners though. Being that age should I let them raise both eggs or just one? I read the older birds get the less well they raise young. So by that logic I guess letting them raise one would make sense. But then I'd obviously have less YB's and also knowing my luck all cocks or all hens!
philg50 Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 They should be able to handle 2 keep feed handy for them ,in pots in their box etc ,imo they should be ok.
walterboswell59 Posted March 15, 2014 Report Posted March 15, 2014 8 and 9 not old for a stock bird m8 they will rear them no problem a pot of tic beans or maple peas in the nest box while there feeding and they will be fine doing what comes natural
