PigeonDetective Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Just wondering if anybody has experiences of transporting eggs and having the chicks raised by pumpers? I can see the benefits of it not being stressful to the birds (because their obviously just eggs), they would settle far easier because their raised in your loft. Also been thinking that it might be an advantage to be able to choose a reliable pair to raise the eggs and of real benefit for someone with a small flock. It can inject new blood into a flock without having to settle their parents etc As for down sides, I'm sure there are lots.. never seem to see hatching eggs advertised. Anybody tried it?

Wiley Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 Whenever I have been gifted eggs or bought them, the best way I've found is, those plastic takeaway tubs, filled with barley, if they've been incubated previous you stick the container in the microwave for a short while, once taken out you put your eggs in the container.

Guest homestead Posted November 19, 2013 Report Posted November 19, 2013 the man on ebay offers to rear the egg for you. its a way round the selling rules on ebay
PigeonDetective Posted November 20, 2013 Author Report Posted November 20, 2013 I dont mind paying money for peoples efforts to show appreciation.. Just a shame when peoples sole intentions are to make money
shweet Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 But what I don't get is if the selling rules don't allow you to sell live pigeon eggs then why are you allowed to sell live duck eggs, what's the difference ?

just ask me Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 A lot of top men let there cocks go down on eggs after racing a sure way to get birds off his top racers that otherwise would not be for sale
blaz Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 you also get alot of widowhood lofts letting their birds go down on 2nd round then split birds the eggs just get bined.i think if you did buy eggs would it not be eggs that are just laid.as bit risky buying eggs if the chick had started to grow unless you you could get them from A to B before eggs went cold.then timing it so as the feeders had milk in their crop. our have i missed something

Guest langley lad Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 My family used to keep hens and when a hen got broody put it on a 12 or 14 eggs saved up in the house or put in an incubator we wanted cocks Mosley, for the table .one cock serviced a lot of hens.so should be same for pigeons I think as long as the eggs are fertile
shweet Posted November 26, 2013 Report Posted November 26, 2013 A test was done and freshly laid pigeon eggs were saved for 4 months and then incubated and successfully hatched. They have to be turned 3 or 4 times a day though
