Guest stb- Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 After poisoning my old bird team at start of last season with beans keptin plastic bags sweating , the plastic bags have struck again . My big pal cal walkers birds have been flying well up till last few weeks with very few losses and all birds with lot of race exsperience . over the last 4 weeks they had started to get very eratic at training which was put down to prob been percy strikes with birds taking hours to home and comming next day . Then at first nat only 1 bird home and well behind next nat nothing then next one only one bird again then to alencon and reims not a feather . Yesterday while up i was looking at the birds not at race and i said they look awfull tired so handled a few and they just wernt the way they should be . Asked him what hav you done different in last 4 weeks , nothing he says so i looked at his feed and the mixture looked 100% , seemed fine , again i said have you given anything else ?? then he said oh ive got 2 bags of 2yr old tic beans in the cupboard in the house and ive been giving them some most days since just before 1st nat , said go get the bag , well out comes 2 poly bags with very dark looking beans so took out a handfull , covered in mould on them just like mine were last year , just shows feed should just not be kept long term in poly bags and in the heat as they sweat . This has been a very sore lesson to learn after nearly all the birds are gone but at least he will not be keeping feed in poly bags again and hopefully this post stops some others doing the same as beans and plastic bags dont mix ,on a plus side at least he hadnt given his young birds them . The big guys gutted he didnt even notice it either
andy Burgess Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 well done raising the issue again .tips like this can save a lot of heartache

soupie Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 Versele Laga Plus mixtures come in double paper bags but between the sheets of paper is a plastic sheet. do you think this would have the same effect ?? cheers
Guest stb- Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 Versele Laga Plus mixtures come in double paper bags but between the sheets of paper is a plastic sheet. do you think this would have the same effect ?? cheersNOT SURE M8 THERE IS ALWAYS A LITTLE MOISTURE CONTENT IN FEED ,WHEN ITS PLASTIC AGAINST THE FEED AND ITS WARM IT DRAWS THE MOISTURE AND WHEN IT COOLS THE BAG THEN CONDESATES , THE LAYER OF PAPER MIGHT STOP THIS HAPPENING M8

OLDYELLOW Posted July 7, 2013 Report Posted July 7, 2013 never had any problems with plastic bins as long as air tight and waterproof there fine
