Guest big slim Posted May 27, 2013 Report Posted May 27, 2013 Last week switched on Unikon ETS and got low battery warning. I sent clock and base station to Unikon. Total cost including postage was 110 quid. Am i alone in thinking thats a wee tad expensive. I have since been told i could have had it done for about 30 quid.

bullcock Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Our base unit came up with the same message at the start of the season, as did the club unit and its only 2 years old, also other club members, how many others got this message at the start of the season, is it because the units are a certain age and automatically give the message or is it something more????Anyone else have to get there base unit battery done this year, when the system was working fine last year and how old is it?
quando Posted May 29, 2013 Report Posted May 29, 2013 Turned mine on week before first race, came up low battery.Phoned unikon quoted £96 + del phoned S.H.U and asked about legality of getting batteries fitted elsewhere, was told no one was autherised to carry this out and would have to send to unikon. Sent of to unikon and it was returned to me in a week total cost inc carriage was £106. This unit was 6 to 7 year old and was bought at same time as Tam Young (Big Slim) as 6 of us bought it at the same time and Tam Mcleod agent at the time done us a deal.
PIGEON_MAN Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Couldve been sorted for £30 by a guy in Lanarkshire, don't know his name though.RPRA have issued a notice today that if the battery warning signal comes up on a ETS system this battery is only to be changed by the MANUFACTURER,do you think the SHU will follow suit.

Tony C Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 I wonder http://www.oft.gov.uk/about-the-oft/legal-powers/legal/competition-act-1998/
Walter swanston Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 The systems (unikon) cost about £500 each, most of the ones in my area were obtained through a lottery grant and remain the property of the various clubs .They have all been used each season for 8 years and I do not see how the batteries can be expected not to require replacement. There is no doubt it is a considerable cost but if I get another 8 years not having to stumble around lofts trying to catch pigeons I have no complaint.

Walter swanston Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 That makes sense Billy but it begs the question should we keep the base station switched on permanently or even intermittent through the winter at the very least the gear should not be left ina frozen loft

Disgraceful decision by the RPRA letting unikon rip us of they should be going about getting a better deal for there members plenty people out there capable of changing batteries at a reasonable price rip of Britain at its best
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted May 31, 2013 Report Posted May 31, 2013 tampering and putting a battery in is two differnt things tamI know they are Walter, but who decides who should put a battery in , and how do you know what is going on then when the clock is opened
