ive just had it and used nifuramycin for 5 days also adenosan for five days at same time sorted my lot out

take away all vitamins and minerals,treat with an antibiotic such as for ecoli,feed small seeds ..ie a corn mixture with lots of small type seeds in it...they are more likely to eat small stuff then beans or maize etc.

do not give probiotic yoghurt ..well not untill after treatmnet is over.

do not let the birds out for a bath or fly...if some birds have gone too far then humanely dispose of them which is the kindest thing to do.

and so it begins watch the old bird losses now it will just be a few guys losing birds at first then it will be most as it attacks our old birds in the training vans and race baskets but it might just be car sickness eh

that's more like it tam it is distance that will get rid of them most lofts have birds that will fly 300mls then breeding takes over , jmo

Personally I've had young bird sickness the last 10 or more years. In my opinion if your having to treat with an antibiotic to over come young bird sickness, you have a bigger problem then young bird sickness. Young bird sickness can be resolved in 3 days, and a difference in the birds can be seen in 48 hours. Many suggest small seeds, in my opinion, the first day no feed then a diet of 100% pellet should be fed, as any pigeon that is vomiting will vomit only 'mash' enabling no other pigeon to pick up the vomited feed. Hence controlling other birds being contaminated. In the drinker should be an electrolyte, glucose mixture. They also need plenty of rest. After 3 days let them out and offer them a bath. How they exercise and if they take a bath will gauge the birds health. Unhealthy birds will not bathe. IF and only IF they haven't shown any sign of improvement or full recovery, a secondary infection would have taken hold of your birds, And alternative treatment would need to be seeked. No grit or minerals are offered to the birds during any of this period

why hold back the grit?

Chad when pigeons have young bird sickness, you want things that past through the system quickly, you also want to control what there eating. Personally grit is the only essential product to give pigeon but it is also heavy, and has a salt content. You could give it to them, but a day without food, and a light feed for the next two days, I'd be worried they'd eat more grit then would actually be needed, causing them to drink more making thing counter productive.

I get YBS every year and some years are worse than others so I don't see this year being any different. I have used Belgica Deweerdts belgamco and also Adenosan at the same time with great success one year but the next year have used the same products with less success. I am old fashioned and race my youngsters on the Natural method which does not help with YBS as they are more susceptible to it IMO. The guys that say they never get it really beats me.
