Guest geordiejen Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 amazingly i found a squeeker newly hatched at the edge of a nestpan freezing cold motionless with what looked like air in its crop.lifted it out the nestpan thinking it was dead and was having a wee think about the sitting pair.then i felt the squeeker moving in my hand after about 20 secs holding it.i have a pair in another section with one egg pipping and the other egg was empty.i put the4 squeeker under them and went to check an hour later to find the squeeker very much alive.if i hadnt seen the empty shell on the loft floor it would have been a goner.

Guest geordiejen Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 you would think that any birds who can sit the eggs through their term can feed youngsters when they hatch.it must come naturally to them.cant understand why they wouldnt.will see tomorow if the youngin has been fed.

billt Posted April 21, 2013 Report Posted April 21, 2013 I suppose like most things in life new born chicks are good survivors if given a chance, I had a dented egg recently with a chick doing it's best to hatch so I helped it out, the nest mate was out the day before, amazing the growth in a youngster in just one day, the difference was unbelievable, I gave the chick a syringe of milk, 4 parts evaporated milk to 1 of water and the same the next day, I put the ring on the titch 7 days after ringing the first one, The big one is well feathered now and titch is just starting to feather but always has a full crop and I know in a couple of weeks they will be the same size, never give up on a tryer
