THE FIFER Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 How are you all doing re hatching etc, good returns or some not hatching, singles etc, and young birds weaned etc, and is the weather effecting your progress. I have had good hatchings in the last week or so so quite happy, some rung, but none weaned yet,
geordie1234 Posted March 18, 2013 Report Posted March 18, 2013 My first round consists of 29 young birds I had one egg not hatch I have 17 moved the rest should be moved by the end of the week This year is by far the best breeding I have had, I put it down to removing pigeons that were no good and also the feeding I was using this year. The youngsters are coming out the nest nice big robust youngsters Hopefully my racing season is as good as I feel my breeding season has gone

andyyy Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 i've had a good breeding year.. got 49 parted, 42 of which are packing and flying well, i have 3 to part this weekend and then a few later end ones, i have had a few clear eggs out of old stock cocks, the only problem i have with breeding, Atb folk
Guest geordiejen Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 first round i had a lot of clear eggs, this in my opinion was down to the first eggs of the yearling pairs.even some yearling pairs came off eggs after 7 -10 days.suppose you need to let the birds find out hw to sit there eggs and unfortunately it can be at the expence of the early breeding.had a couple of eggs chip with the dreaded hole of death in the shell.good records of when the eggs are about to chip saved them both.i ran my thunb nail around the egg and let the chick push out when it was ready.had one that let out a wee bit of blood but it conjealed quickly and hatched out.still a wee bit behind on birds wanted but as we all know it never pans out ideally with every pair.
MIK Posted March 20, 2013 Report Posted March 20, 2013 26 pair down witin 4 days of each other, 2 pair yearlings a week later. I lost a set off eggs due to a HEN fighting in the box she was in last year. one yearling hen only laid one. 1st hatch today and the flood gates should open this week. hoping for a good hatch, i dont check to see if blank, if they hatch they hatch. good luck allMick
