I have kept pigeons for over forty years and this year a good three year old cock has got me baffled. He has been paired up with TWO different hens this year because he will NOT take a turn and sit on the eggs.He is in the same nest box he had for the last two years in which he sat eggs and reared as normal but this year that's six eggs that's been laid to him and there are all empty. Has anybody ever experienced this type of behaviour before its got me beat.

personally not come accross this .how about removing both hens ,lock him in his box for a week ,before introducing a hen again ?

The first hen he was paired to this year was his first mate as a yearling and reared as normal this year he was tried again with her and she laid four eggs to the *expletive removed* and he never sat on any and they were all blank. So I took the hen away and about ten days later I gave him a NEW hen and once again when she laid he would not sit and these eggs are also blank.

ok now understand better .how important is it to you ,that you have young off him ?? if not , race him dry .like to add ,i dont have as much experience as you .just sometimes a problem shared ,is a problem halved. :animatedpigeons:

sounds like the cocks driving two hens so he is allways looking at the one ready to lay so does not want to sit the hens are competing for him so will not let him tread great way to race the hens if you need yb off him put him and one hen in your yb section they should be okpair the other hen to another cock if not race them like that m8 cant get better motivation

I am not sure if hes getting an erection if that's what you mean?? I am beginning to think that it could be a hormone problem.

If tail feathers not bending adequately could be stopping him treading hen only thing I can think of ;)

But that would not stop him from sitting on the eggs . he wont sit on his eggs.Could it be that his hen from last year is in the same section?/?

that shouldn't be a problem if both pairs are paired up to new partners I often shuffle mine around every year :)
