andy Burgess Posted January 25, 2013 Report Posted January 25, 2013 andy think he means how far do you let yb,s go on the wing moult before you stop themif thats the case Blaz, i always understood when 4 to go ,stop them . but after being advised last year ,dont let them go when the last flight is on its way up ? so have listened to both lots of advice , but made my own decisions .

Personally natural young birds should not be raced from the longer young bird races when they have cast there 9th flight.

Tony C Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 your asking about stopping them at a certain time according to the dropping of flights but you must also be aware of other conditions: when they're bald around the head & when the covert feathers on the wing fall (best described when the bars of blues start to fall), in this condition they'll feel knotty. Any rain about they'll get saturated. Once through the body moult you can bring them out again and get another couple of races out of them but you have to be wary of the dropping of the last two flights, if the second from last is just pushing through leave them at home but once its grown an inch & half you can race them and they'll be in perfect condition. Once the second from last is 2/3rds grown thats its racing finished for the year.

Guest geordiejen Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 dont think theres any majic potion for the race season but defenetely a good multivit supplement when they return.

VAGIN Posted January 26, 2013 Report Posted January 26, 2013 If your not sure sure Ref the moult You should ask other club members who have been racing for a few years Im sure they would keep you on the right track
