Ryno Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Right lads just building a new bird loft what do you lads prefer v perches or boxs? Just wondering dont know which way to go! ATB Ryno
greenlands Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 Young birds mate, boxes, deeper the better, makes them easier to catch.
jakie Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 find box perch better, around 10" square, gives the pigeon something to protect and is easier to get your hands round them for basketing as they just back into the box perch.i would keep the perchies about 1" from back wall for scraping so nothing can collect in behind them, not as clean as plastic v perch but more practical, just clean and spray regular with jeyes fluid, good luck mate !
ovy1255 Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 slope back pearches they dont stand in their sh-- , easy clean ,lift off to disinfect --as far as catching birds ,put the darkness shutters up they will be no bother lift out the drinker and feed trough, you always kick them.
Tony C Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 For me it depends on how you plan to race them. If your going to have them on the darkness they'll be wanting to pair up through racing so having boxes will help in that regard.
THE FIFER Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 box perches defo for young birds, I have a mixture but feel the box ones best, the only good thing about v's is their feet are cleaner
greenlands Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 My young bird loft is all box perches and I'm sorry to say lads there are NO dirty feet,if your birds have dirty feet there's a problem.JMO.
ovy1255 Posted October 7, 2012 Report Posted October 7, 2012 my main problem is overcrowding ,space being limited my loft manager old pigeon man local to me wants to fill every perch with youngbirds and at the end of the season keep everything thats there.i think a lot of guys will agree ---DONT OVERCROWD YOUR YOUNGBIRDS.
