Lump

Just had a pigeon brought back to me after being out on loan and it has an egg size lump near its vent. What is it. Thinking it could be a protein lump

is the lump black and firm ?

is it external?

Is it internal,as though you can feel it or is it visibly on the outside. ??

It's under the skin as its swollen the colour is yellow. It's squidgy.

almost certainly a tumour

protein lumps tend to be black and grow externaly they are unsightly but usualy harmless and fall off eventualy.

I have banded it. Is that a good idea. I used to get the odd one on my pomeraniums. But I used to band them straight away. But this one has gone a bit to long.

It's not a prolapse is it?(insides falling out through egg laying)

 

We've had that happen to a couple of hens in the past ( banding is not a good idea if that is the case)

Just an update. Shown the bird to a very knowledgeable mate and he says its canker. So she's on her way to recovery.
