With over 100 pigeons to be sold, it would have been wise to have placed a full page advert in the British Homing World. There is only 2 members of my club out of 20 that are members of pigeonbasics. You cannot under estimate the Power of the BHW, JMO

Looking at the comments regarding sale…I have in my opinion never posted anything controversial on PB before..but this maybe my first…me and my wife are in business, if you want to sell you need to “attract buyers†with details of what you are selling.

If this sale results were not as hoped fo rmaybe there are lessons to be learned for the future…you need to let people know what you are “Sellingâ€.

I have cut some comments from the PB forum postings regarding this sale and added comments, make of them what you will…

Sale details were posted “More details will be available, nearer to the time of the saleâ€.

Later post said “Advert in this weeks BHW.†Don’t think this happened a further post said “ Can you tell us what page it is on, as i have looked about 4 times since the first post on Friday. I have a feeling that when you have both quoted "this weeks" perhaps what you really mean is "Next weeks" a reply came in there is “ A bit about the sale in Joe Murphy's columnâ€

A question was asked.. “will there be pedigrees on the pens†the reply was “some will brian doin ma best ma dads paper work in chinesse†Doesn’t sound good to prospective buyers.

A further post said “has anybody got a sales list for this sale would like a wee look a tone before i travel through to itâ€

I added a post “Can anyone confirm the sale time, is there a copy of the sale list available†no sales list available.

I had a potential 60 mile drive to this sale, finally decided at 10 this morning not to go as information on the birds for sale had not been given any priority. Maybe my loss maybe not as we all probably have more “stockbirds†than we need, and that should be remembered by anyone trying to sell birds these days..we need to be "made interested" to come out and buy.

the details on the site were coming from those who were getting them from club members and new about the sale, the site was no other way involved or had any details, members could only post what they new, and trying to help,

If not for PB how many people would have known about this sale. ?

I am only trying to put over due to the decline in the "pigeon game" today people holding sales really need to attract buyers, where was this sale "actually" advertised ?

If we had been given on PB some details of the "Performance birds" / "stock birds" / "Reference birds" there may have been more attending the sale, we didnt need the whole sales list just enough to make people interested enough to attend

Agree with some of your comments, I would have liked more info about birds prior to the sale. As there was little or no info, I travelled to sale. There were no "pedigrees" as such, but I bought what I liked, based on my own preferences. I think the people that missed out were the ones that did not attend, some quality birds at very cheap prices.

I Know from 1st hand experience what you had to do , I lost my father nearly 2 years ago , and it took me a long while to get to grips with his loft paperwork , and although I was involved to a degree with the doo,s , most of his knowlege was kept in his head or jotted down as you say in chinese, so from me WELL DONE for what you managed to do.

tha nks for ur comment bibendium this sale was very upsetting for myself bt as i said u cant please every 1 n if people who moan came to the sale maybe they would hve got a bargain ps my dad always said a birds pedigree is not worth the paper its written on my dads words not mine

Wasnt at the sale cos I dont need any more pigeons but I sympathise with you. I have been involved in sales for bereaved and it is very difficult to put together with a lack of information. Your dad was well known and had some great performances but unfortunately it is sometimes difficult to get a turn out at sales of this kind. Best of luck anyway
