Are you using sliding door? Are they darkies?
The White Rapido Man Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 ...Cheers....they were on Darkness, and flying to a stall trap, and half not been split, although I do have and adjoining empty YB section, with open doors to the front but no internal door. Ive only got a small team of 15, and probably half of those are paired up, with two sitting eggs for about a week. I just wondering what I can do to sort the remaining lazy unpaired cocks up that are clapping about like widowhood cocks and not interested in flying about the loft at all......If I put a couple of older hens in the YB section for them, would this gee them up do you think....Feeding is quite simple, just using an economy mixture with about a quarter of barley in it; half feed morning and evening, twice a week I have been putting multi vits in the water, and a splash of chillie olive oil on the seed once a week.....Im just worried that I'll not get the cocks into form before the week end, although I shall send them 30 miles evewryday this week.
andy Burgess Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 30 mile a day all week ?? ouch .how far is the first race ?? .personally if youve had them down the road every day for a few weeks ,i would try a few old hens in ,and just leave them play about the garden ,and not train ,send them on Friday and wait for a good result.
The White Rapido Man Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 Hi Andy....they did 30 mile a day 5 days last week, and 17 miles a day Monday to Friday, for the last 2 weeks..... do you think I should rest them this week??.....first race is aprox 68 miles.

What's wrong with training at 30 miles Andy? WRM, it's a bit late now for tips and advice as they should already been on some form of system, only tip that can be given is to enjoy the experience.

They are dawdling home perhaps cos they are sick of the basket?
The White Rapido Man Posted July 30, 2012 Author Report Posted July 30, 2012 Cheers Dal.....I'll put a couple of old hens with them shortly. Would you continue to train this week at 30 miles? Or bring them back down to 17 miles again??.........

What's wrong with training at 30 miles Andy? WRM, it's a bit late now for tips and advice as they should already been on some form of system, only tip that can be given is to enjoy the experience.thats fine if it works for you Wiley ,not possible for me (wouldnt do it if it was) all roads they say lead to Rome. In my opinion the more roadwork the betteryou are far more knowledge-able than me ,that i know ,and i respect your opinion , but mine is diffrent
Tony C Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 I think it would be a mistake to excite the young cocks too early. Let them have a race or two before introducing them to the old hens.
Guest robscott Posted July 30, 2012 Report Posted July 30, 2012 if your going to race widowhood with your ybs i think its best to show hens during training,so by the time 1st race comes along your young cocks wil know what the games about and will be a lot calmer going into 1st race.heres another little trick you can try,get your hens sitting 12 days for yb national, lets say you got 15 pairs and all sitting 12 day eggs on friday of yb national, your going to see some fun n games come saturday hahaha trust me on that one,ya cant beat young hens sitting 12 days ;-)
