FoxesFan4Ever Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 Hi all. I have been taking a look at how I am using my loft space. At the moment I have an 18ft x 8ft inc a 2ft corridor and a 8ft x 6f. The 18fter is split into 3 x 6ft sections and the 8fter is just 1 section. I am looking to optimise the space I have so I am coming to you for ideas. Right now the large 1 is home to hens, young birds and stock pairs and the smaller 1 just houses widowers. I don't really want to lose the corridor and I am also looking for room for food bins and crates. The putting together won't be a problem as long as it's not over complicated as I am pretty good with my hands and have plenty of time to do the jobs and also no hurry to get it done, I just want to do the best for the birds and make things as uncomplicated as possible for me. I am intending to limit myself to 12 widowers, 12 hens 4 stock pairs and as many young birds as suitable. So let me know your thoughts please lads n lasses, I will give all your ideas full respect and consideration and let you know what I eventually do. Thanks very much!!!
Tony C Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I would make the hens section smaller and the young bird section bigger.
Wiley Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 I would make the hens section smaller and the young bird section bigger. Ditto
just ask me Posted July 23, 2012 Report Posted July 23, 2012 quite limited with space myself what i have done is my widowhood section is joining with my young bird section after the old bird season my cocks are put into a aviary i then give the young birds the run of the widowhood section you can even split the sexes if you wish
eyesign123 Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 if i was you i would set a limit of how many youngbirds you are going to breed and stick to it. Then make the old birds sections smaller so that you are on top the birds.
DJWa Posted August 25, 2012 Report Posted August 25, 2012 split your 8ft loft into 5ft x 6ft and 3ft x 6ft5ft will easily house 12 cocksthe 3ft will also easily house 12 hens on perchesso would be ideal to race either widdowhood or roundaboutthats if its an 8 ft x 6 ft loft your 18ft loft 6ft seems quite large for 4 pr of stockmore like 8 or 9 pr that would leave you 2x 6ft sections for y/bs or you could take 2ft off the stock and 2 ft off one of the y/b sectionsgiving you 4ft x 6ft for a feed store/basket store
