Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 YB Returned from bad toss on sunday morning.Seems one leg is hanging off.Bird has no power to move it. Can anyone suggest a treatment?never seen this before. Other than this the bird is eating and drinking ok Funny just reported a y/b at about 11-30 Soltire picked it up at about 2ish (Fife) and our bird landed on loft at half two.
just ask me Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 depends how bad it is usually i just make splint for them if you think its real bad you can put a splint on the bird and suspend the bird a pair of womans tights is perfect for the job just make sure he has access to water did have a hen where she came back with half her leg gone she was perfect as hen to keep my one of my cocks happy and after a very short amount of time moved about no problem at all
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Sounds like the leg is broken at the top of the leg, put it in a nest box with a deep bed of shavings. Keep it there for 3 weeks, tough wee buggars and its amazing how they will heal themselves.
Roland Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Cleansed and with just one / two tops, wraps with a very thin cloth / mesh. Then wraping with sellotape. This will strengthen into a split. 2-3 weeks, soak in soapy water to remove. Have joined back a leg that was busted next to the body, plus many others unfortunately, sin
Jumbo Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 Have 1 in the same condition, it has been in a nest box for about 10 day and is starting to put some weight on his leg again , should be ok in another week or so .
Wiley Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 I tend to put the bird in a widow hens box with a deep nest bowl with wood chips. Tried suspending in woman's tights they tend to struggle and fall out eventually
fletch Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 have found that they come on better if you can put them in a box in yb section were they feel at home, deep litter and it will mend
Guest stb- Posted July 10, 2012 Report Posted July 10, 2012 super glue the burst skin together and leave in a box of deep shavings as gareth said as long ase theres blood still circulating the flesh it will heal fine , if not will wither and drop of
Michael J Burden Posted July 11, 2012 Report Posted July 11, 2012 if it is just paralysed no outward injury put it into a nest box for a week with food and water it can reach. One day about 7 -10 days it will be standing on it then you can begin letting it out inside the loft to keep its wings supple. Then after 2 weeks let out of loft and treat as the rest of your birds.
