Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Can any one help me out here i currently live in an area thats not the best place to live but not bad i have been gifted a 4 bed house in quite an upper class area not posh or anything like that. My question is can i have pigeons at the house the house will be owned by us its a detached property with neighbours either side and at the back etc. Im getting mixed responses from different people i ask. I dont want to enquire about permission as i dont want to get turned down if that was the case i would rather take the chance and wait and see if i get a vist. Can any one see any reason why there cant be kept here.

REDCHEQHEN Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 Start small you don't need permission - there is an exemption now for certain sizes (see local authority) for livestock they have to be sited 5 metres away from living accomodation hope its got a nice big garden (evil)
OLDYELLOW Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 if your own property and theres no phobition on pigeons being kept then no problem , as for planning permision as long as its 1 metre away from all boundarys it will be fine

JMO

Roland Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 No, and further go for it. There are very few 'Resident RULES' that try and bann the keeping of pigeons... none that can't and haven't been sucessfully challenged. Meet the nieghbours and be a friendly idiot - for keeping pigeons - and you'll do fine!
Guest Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 5 metres - without planning permission - you need planning permission any closer Yes spot on Red, there are height restrictions too, depending on whether flat roof or not 3 metres for flat and 4 I think for apex but you can check with planning. The only other restriction planning wise is in repect of adjacent roads, the loft needs to be 5 metres from them otherwise you will also require planning. The other important factor are your deeds, whether there are restrictions on keeping any livestock? If there are it ain't necessarily end of story, for example there are many new estates which say no white vans, caravans etc but are ignored, if other covenants are not being enforced then there will be difficulty in enforcing yours.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 thansk everyone i will let u know how i get on
ribble Posted June 6, 2009 Report Posted June 6, 2009 What a gift! My advice would be to start small, maybe a garden shed with trap on, a dozen or so young keep them under control. Maybe a couple of fancy colored one might help. Good luck!
