T_T Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Having a Bent/Wavy keel on a youngster. Backward step ?
OLDYELLOW Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 If fully matured no good have seen slightly bent keels on Squabs but they've straightened out normally when left , possible causes are canker and mineral deficiency
Roland Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 'Broken keel'etc. were champs. No difference, if the bird is good enough it is.... no need for another lame crutch, too many of them already.

Bent keel is totally different as it's deformed / bent , the bird will never be stream line which be no good to race however it could be used to breed from but would you want unwanted deformities in your birds ????

boxer Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 had 1 with a keel like the letter S it went on to be a brilliant racer and won a bit of cash aswell. but i still think its a sign of weekness in the bird.

We had a multiple club winner and winner of federation winner with this shaped keel many years bk. I don't like to see it but if you don't race it you'll never know
geordie1234 Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 broken keel then healed yes bent formed keel no
Daisymay Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Bent keel can be caused by not enough nesting material.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted April 17, 2012 Report Posted April 17, 2012 Heard of it happening in nests from really old pigeons. Not sure its a big cause for concern one of John Ellis of Wellbanks foundation birds was known as "The Bent Keeled hen"
