yeboah Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Just heard that pipa have faxed details of the sale's list to the twelve bus drivers that have just won the euromillions, perhaps we in scotland could also build up a team of multiprizewinners if they did not see beyond the south coast, own and have read there book must say a wonderful read ,they sure did give a lot of birds away to close friends and relations who in turn gave them to others, and many many times did not receive the recognition there birds deserved,on a personal point having gifted birds to prominent fanciers it is very disappointing to find out second hand or view from a national result that they are doing well, sure the same has happened to yourselves lads and lassies .
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 would they still have the winning genes that long out of the basket Suppose its an expensive chance some will take. A bit like buying a vintage car or the like,it'd be nice to have but ye arenae goin to be going back and forward for your messages everyday in it. I know a guy thats spent small fortunes on whiskies that he'll never even open let alone drink. This may end up being something similar and will no doubt give a bit of pleasure to the buyers

billt Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 would they still have the winning genes that long out of the basketBut have to remember it's not the basket that gives them the winning genes
just ask me Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 But have to remember it's not the basket that gives them the winning genes no but previous stock was picked on winning pigeons where they dont have that marker to choose from today
billt Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 no but previous stock was picked on winning pigeons where they dont have that marker to choose from today I agree we don't have the visual proof not being raced but in theory the genes should still be there, I'm sticking up for mine now, I've had them since the '70s and I last raced in 1986, the feathering on them is superb, I remember when we first started vaccinating for PMV, my wife, a non-fancier, could pick every Janssen by feather quality, I was holding the bird and she was injecting being the nurse
just ask me Posted March 20, 2012 Author Report Posted March 20, 2012 im not saying there wont be some real top class gems in them of course there will be and the genes will carry forward in some that for sure all im saying is we cant pick the top racers or breeders ive seen so many bad good looking birds some of these birds may go back 4 or more generations without seeing a basket and its not ideal when buying in new stock im sure you bought your birds in the 70s apart from being janssens but on there recent racing performances im hot having a dig at the birds no other family of birds has made a mark on racing pigeons like they did even other strains that have come into the country under other names its unreal when you think about it also with the price that these will fetch more than likely the owners will not race the children as the price would be too high so your looking at a further 2 generations before they see a race all adds up to maybe 6 or 7 generations before they seen a race basket video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nitbOMZ24mI
