sapper756 Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 Does any member know of any fanciers who race widowhood hens, and have the cocks at home? Saw this discussed on a dvd by Frank Tasker.http://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/animatedpigeons.gif apparently this may be the way of the future. What do you think?
OLDYELLOW Posted February 19, 2012 Report Posted February 19, 2012 I race both hens and cocks have for last couple of years to get decent hens and about 8 races out of 10 hens will beat the cocks

Saw this discussed on a dvd by Frank Tasker. apparently this may be the way of the future. What do you think?I raced on roundabout last year pleased with the way i picked up the system with the cocks, the hens were a different story exercised fantastic but did not perform on the saturday ,so i stopped them and kept them for this season rather than waste them with not knowing what i was doing,Made contact with a very good hen flyer ad traveled a few hundred miles to find out the rights from the wrongs so this year cocks thats paired to the hens defo at home ,plus now no how to feed them ,should not have said that time will tell
alex young Posted February 20, 2012 Report Posted February 20, 2012 Sapper,my widow hens are exercised from their own section daily and trap back into it.It gives you a couple of options, they can see their cocks before a race and will trap to the cocks section on return and are left there a few hours. If for any reason I don't want them to see their cocks,I let them through to the nestboxes when the cocks are out at exercise they are then basketed from their nest bowls and trap into their own section on return but don't see the cocks.I usually do this for midweek racing or if I think it's going to be a hard race and I want fresh pigeons for the next race,I can then send the cocks. One draw back with this is the hens don't exercise for very long(20mins)but they race twice a week.
