hi all i noticed a bird which looks like pink spots around the eyelids.wattle is a bit dirty too.not greasy or wet.looks fine acts fine but maybe breathing a bit heavy when held in the hand.onlooking at it on a perch it doesnt seem to have breathing problems.will take a pic later.im going to give it a bit of ornicure for respiritory but just wondered if anyone could pinpoint it for me.got it in a pen right now so i can see what like the poops are.

if you look around the eye you can see a spot at the top a smaller one further down towards the beak and one right at the front close to where the beaks and the eye.where the feathers part a bit.

not that ive noticed mate they just sit on a perch not seen any bickering between any of them.i was thinking that myself but dont think its a wound.looks more like a spot.

had another good look at it tonight when i cam in from work.its got cheezy throat.gave it a canker tab so hopefully the canker is not a secondary infection.

well after lots of searching and vets examination i eventually got to the bottom of it.canker treatment didnt work.these cheezy like deposits on the throat was actually a sign of pigeon herpes.only lost one show racer to it but lost lots of my horseman and norwich croppers.its cost me a lot of money but i have enough birds here to bounce back.just goes to show the vets can do something even though they themselves dont actually know.a bird had to be sent to the lab to be examined by a pathologist.

yes they will be going in the bin.this partucular bird wasnt actually sick but those tell tale signs(yellow spots)indicate the pigeon has had disease.this bird amongst others have recently been brought in,put in a seperate pen for 2 weeks seemed fine so they went into the main loft.this herpes virus has killed or i killed almost all of my pouters as they couldnt cope with it.thats me finished with bringing in new stock birds.still not all doom and gloom i still have plenty of birds to restock.will leave it about a fortnight or so then the whole loft is getting sprayed and painted with emulsion paint.that should hopefully see the end of it.almost all of the show racers didnt show any sign of sickness or even it could have went un noticed if i didnt have the pouters.also read that herpes virus is quite common in racing pigeons, seemingly it only usually puts a dampener on the racing results of the fancier.dont blame anyone its just one of those things.i chose to bring the birds in so im responsible for the birds well being.what doesnt kill us makes us stronger.
