gordi.b Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 had my hens out three times in december , lost one every time they were out , seems my local peregrine / sparrowhawk has a taste for the red factor, red hen , silver mealy hen and mealy pied hen , thats it they are locked up till spring.

Walter swanston Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 My pigeons are in the loft and aviary September to March each year it`s either that or carnage,I am not too happy about it but it`s the only way to keep them alive through the winter
Guest homestead Posted December 31, 2011 Report Posted December 31, 2011 I was delivering to the Tesco main warehouse at Livingston on the 24th and could not beleive how many and the differant breads of BOP i saw once i passed Lancaster. On the outskirts of Gretna upto Hamilton i saw at least one every 10 to 15 miles you lads up there have it tough. Like Alf said dont let them out its a pity but must be the answer, i've lost 25+ in 3 seasons so this winter i kept them in and on the few occassions i let them out Yes it happened i lost another just saw a mass of feathers on the grass.
Kyleakin Lofts Posted January 1, 2012 Report Posted January 1, 2012 I was losing 1 a day at the end of August, so didn't wait for September. Once the SH hen had the taste she was there the minute I let them out. I still see her occasionally, but she is not terrorising my pigeons. When they were going out I spotted 2 SH hens at the same time, so if they are territorial it must have been mum and daughter before daughter got shifted.
