geordie1234 Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 Does anyone fly there young birds on the open bowl do you think there is a plus side to this or are there any negatives The reason i ask I was thinking next year since im down at the compound now I can bascially have doos out aw the time if I liked so I was thinking Old birds exercised before work 5-8 then ybs out till I came home from work then old birds back out? Look forward to your answers Geordie
andy Burgess Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 i dont , but would think you may have trouble with control and trapping ? if you only wish to educate the young with a few races it may work , longer races may give more benefit , another possible downfall is if access given over a long period , i wonder how many strays you may find in there at the end of the day ??
Babybird Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 you may also find BOP could be a problem , be like a drive through everyday
geordie1234 Posted November 27, 2011 Author Report Posted November 27, 2011 I have been told it is safe its away from any houses or that so not really cats about. Maybe try it the other way about like yb morning and night and old birds out in between. It was just a thought
just ask me Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 young birds need to be on a system of trapping and open door dont teach them a whole lot only to sit on the roof jmo

Look forward to your answers Geordie I don't think you'll be too popular with the other fanciers in the compound if you do this George, they will be demented trying to get their own young birds in if yours are sitting about, believe me theirs will sit with yours rather than go in for the owner, that then makes you nothing more than a pest to them. So for that reason open bowl is a no no around other lofts. jmo

frank-123 Posted November 27, 2011 Report Posted November 27, 2011 when they land they would be in the loft get them into a good habit as young birds
Guest homestead Posted November 28, 2011 Report Posted November 28, 2011 ask other fanciers at the compound if they have lost birds to BOP attacks if yes your youngsters could be on the menu daily
