johnnyksspeedshop Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 Hello all, do you make any changed to winterize your loft? This is my first winter with this loft, and it has too many windows so I cut plexiglass for all of them yesterday so they still allow light to pass. For ventilation the roofing has large gaps in the ripples at the tap, and can exit at either side, I hope its enough. I would like to add a few more vents towards the bottom on the front. Does anybody know if there are round vents with a 3-4" diameter in black metal? I need a water heater, but besides that im not sure what else.

andy Burgess Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 nice to see some pic,s Johny , last year was my first Winter in Scotland after moving "up country " from Wales . i had to cover the lower vents and windows with perspex (what you call plexi-glass) to save the snow coming into the loft
johnnyksspeedshop Posted November 18, 2011 Author Report Posted November 18, 2011 nice to see some pic,s Johny , last year was my first Winter in Scotland after moving "up country " from Wales . i had to cover the lower vents and windows with perspex (what you call plexi-glass) to save the snow coming into the loft That is one of the reasons I covered mine as well. Luckily the vents in the rear are completely protected. I plan on shoveling around the majority of it though to try and preserve the wood, we'll see if that happens when its below zero though the cold weather is great for your doos But what about for me
andy Burgess Posted November 18, 2011 Report Posted November 18, 2011 you asked about circular vents ?? over here we have some which are fixed on some housing below the "landers" to allow air circulation in the attic space that allows moisture to dissapate ? so try a builders merchant or similar maybe ??

Dave barrie Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 looking at your loft setup i think you dont need anymore ventilation jhonny, i am in the north of scotland and i dont have vents close to ground for vermin reasons, you get cold you get problems with pests as far as feathered freinds are concerned, the doos come into good codition with cold, measure your feed to an ounce a bird and they will be right for pairing up, driving rain is the worst thing, put shutters up, copld wind wont hurt. hope it helps davy.
johnnyksspeedshop Posted November 19, 2011 Author Report Posted November 19, 2011 Thanks for the pointers Davy! I may not add any, or just a few one or two inch diameter vents in the front bottom of the door. The round soffit vents have wire mesh behind the louvers, so no verman can access them.
Wiley Posted November 19, 2011 Report Posted November 19, 2011 Have to say that's a cracking looking loft
