Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 How far off the ground should the loft be in order to prevent vermin. My loft is only about a brick high and cant get rid of mice.in addition to this the back of the loft is right next to a fence thus making it hard to lift it. Any Ideas
OLDYELLOW Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 get a few bottle jacks and put breeze blocks under or reclaimed sleepers
andy Burgess Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 i have had mine at 3 foot off the ground and was happy with this , not keen on having them close to the ground myself . however after moving up here they are now only 6" off the ground due to being very built up area and hieght of fencing etc .

andy Burgess Posted October 24, 2011 Report Posted October 24, 2011 Do you get any problems with mice, had poison down for ages but they just keep on comingnot previuosly , but have caught a few whilst here , stock lofts are ok all vents have mesh behind them and secure fitting doors . the (manufactured) race lofts however have sliding doors and cant overcome the easy access without major modification , although in all honesty not had any for a good few months ,this may be due to the presence of our wee terrier .good luck.

Dave barrie Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 we get field mice in the wet months so i fill galley pots with seed and soak in antifreeze, works a treat, atb.
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 COUPLE OF BATTONS AND A CAR JACK TAKE YOUR TIME IT WILL WORK.///
REDROCKET Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 lifting it off the ground wont stop vermin getting into your loft but will stop most off it from nesting under it.i'd be putting a mesh round it after lifting it as this creates a perfect hiding place for cats to pray on the birds while they are plodding about the garden.jmo atb
The White Rapido Man Posted October 25, 2011 Report Posted October 25, 2011 if food particles are left about then pest species will venture in no matter what the height off the ground is.........good housekeeping and proofing keeps vermin away!
