Guest yorkshire terrier 77 Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Hi, I am new to pigeon basics and i am very impressed with the site already , there seems to be some very good sound advice been given and some equaly as good questions asked which has saved me asking them. I am trying to get a start with my local homing club as i was a member of the midweek club hear in northallerton when i was a young boy. I absolutly loved the sport and the crack we all had but sadly this club no longer exists, I have a little lad of my own now, i want to have a go at it again and show him how much fun the sport can be and by which when you are hooked you are hooked, wouldant you agree? i have certainly got the bug back over the last few months or so and have visited a couple of my good friends who are in the club i want to join, i visited there lofts and may i say what a credit to them all they are. i am actualy looking for a loft around 18ft by 6ft size possibly with three sections or whatever realy, i am finding it pretty difficult finding somthing used or in suitible travelling distance and also in my price range as starting up is certainly not cheap especialy now there is ets to consider aswell, however i have permssion which was the most important thing of all to start with. Can you understand how frustrating it is when you just want to get on and get some birds in and start to think of the season ahead i just want to get things started lol. anyhow just wanted to say hi to all and thanks for adding all the photos etc as it gives me ideas and keeps my mind going until i can get a proper start myself. keep up the good work, Many thanks. davey smith

Guest Dorset-lad Posted June 7, 2011 Report Posted June 7, 2011 Hi and welcome to PB Davey. Like your self i was away from the sport about 13 years then had a phone call to go help a mate of mine and look after his birds because he at to go in hospital and have some cancer removed so i raced his old and young birds that season and loved every minute of it. now 2 years down the line im 2 weeks away from getting my 1st birds in 13/14 years which ive been gifted from a PB member. so you are in the right place for any info you need they are a great bunch on here hope you enjoy Brian

Guest yorkshire terrier 77 Posted June 12, 2011 Report Posted June 12, 2011 thanks for the welcome evrybody, looks like i may have found a loft its an old blakes loft ,ok its been standing empty for about ten years and is in need of some repairs but its still sound enough and most important of all its still bone dry inside so thats good. A bit of loving and some elbow grease and i am sure i can make it my own so i hopefully have myself a little project to keep me busy for a little while and i have been told by a friend that he has a pair of latebreds from his best birds i can have to get me a start , also i have seen the secetery of the club and he said there will be no problem with me joining so its all looking good :) :) . still a year until i can race tho, gutted !!!!! lol lots to do in the meantime tho in good preparation. patience is a virtue they say . so good luck to all for the rest of the old bird races and hope you all have good returns with your youngens with good prospects for the future years.
