think northern hygiene are £30 all in and send the kit out :) you test your dropping by taking samples usually from every box mix in to a paste i go for the suspect looking ones ;) as for swabs just select dodgiest looking bird ;)

the vet I use in Thirsk charges about £12 plus £3.50 for swabs (but swabs are done at the clinic) droppings are tested for cocci, worms and salmonella

he does postal as well (£59.97 for 3 droppings tests, 3 x 2 swabs (throat and cloaca) 100ml of tonic and 200ml of baycox when I went last month plus written report)

excellent value for money - he only does birds (and I think it's about £35 for a post mortem)

They would not be able to test for salmonella from one source of droppings, The test for salmonella requires 4 dropping samples taken every other day and what happens then is they grow cultures in an oven which takes a few days to grow, the reason for the 4 samples are that pigeons that carry salmonella dont always shed the bacteria every day so a single culture could comeback negative from a pigeon that carries the bacteria , the cost for a salmonella test costs around £50 on its own and you dont get the results for around a week after you send in the sample. If the place that is testing you droppings are tell you they are testing for salmonella when they test for worms and cocci they are lying to you.

sorry - but you're wrong - he does all the tests in his own lab - and they take 4 days - you get a written report posted to you

he is an avian vet only and only has laboratory facilities - he does not perform surgery

I take offence to your implying he's lying - and so would the vet
