alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Maybe 2 or 3 Brian at the most!Didny much like yer post about the west location of race point being any bearing on the outcome! A bad race is a bad race and we should accept and move on!!!! Just put 5 stitches in the hen that I scored at Bourges last year. landed at 9.30pm!!! Game old girl? great doo to get back m8. :)
Blue Tooner Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Would agree with you about the controller being lynched, perhaps it should be madeby the members at a AGM, More study work wouldbe required before any drastic decission regarding the K- Index. Totally agree with you Gareth
dal2 Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 great doo to get back m8. :)Ye John shes always tried hard! Still 4 SNFc prize winners tae come
yeboah Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Don't now about the k-factor but what about the P factor certain they don't stop killing on a Saturday, watched one female falcon attack a large convoy of lanarkshire yb's at beattock in the early nineties turned and scattered thousands they were going everywhere rang jocky harrison and told him not to expect them on time as they were going in every direction but north, now that was twenty years ago and we all no how it has since multiplied doesn't take much working out ,Joe Murphy proposed the idea many years ago that we should hire the use of a small aircraft firm to film and follow our doos after liberation and try and solve the high losses that could occur at least then it would be proof of what is actually taking place instead of all this guess work ,his idea was shot down pardon the pun the guy was not suggesting we have the plane feet behind them got to give this idea a chance ,the birds could be getting attacked every four miles such are there numbers the convoys would be scattered to the four corners within the first hour convinced this is the cause after witnessing it so many times first hand .
alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Ye John shes always tried hard! Still 4 SNFc prize winners tae come ouch!!! lets hope we get a few turning up this week. :)
alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Who wins the race?? might just be george mann in airdrie.
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 might just be george mann in airdrie. Kinna thought it would maybe pip the Solway pigeons. Very well done to the winner and all who timed in what proved to be a very tough race
yeboah Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 might just be george mann in airdrie. If he does hope its a hen
VMS Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 A very sore weekend for all Scottish organisations this weekend, but the west section fanciers experience this every year so nothing new for us. :emoticon-0126-nerd:
alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 If he does hope its a hen think it might be a cock michael. :)
blaz Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 like it has been said marlborough has been a very bad race.hope something is learned from it.time to pull socks up and think about eastbourne. as for any bird beating 1134 will not be from this side .my 1st 2 velocities are roughly 1086.5 and 942.5 my 1st bird will be in top 3 in secsion with not a lot separating 1st 3 birds in secsion B i have 7 out of 14 home with one of my cocks home with a small hole in him .he was 1st fed 18th open ypres last year .just glad he made it home
yeboah Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 think it might be a cock michael. :) Oh well second again maybe

alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Oh well second again maybe you have timed a cracker mike. :)
Guest Gareth Rankin Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 So wot is G Manns velocity lads? Not been confirmed but was told it was 1140
alec guinness Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 So wot is G Manns velocity lads? dont know m8 timed 3 on the dot i think, not sure of the miles should be approx 321.will need to wait me thinks. :)
blaz Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 Wot will we learn Gary? can only say for myself and that would be 1 to be more wary to sending birds to race point further west than birds have raced before especially with a strong north east wind.
yeboah Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 you have timed a cracker mike. :) Many thanks he is in wonderful condition new he was right when i took his hen to him on Thursday night and when he seen it in my hand flew from his box and landed on top of his hen that i was holding and when i put his hen in the box he jumped back onto my hand and tried to tread me
Blue Tooner Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 In response to five contacts asking for more light . . . . . The 'K Index' is an inexact science. I'm still learning how to apply it. Best if I compare it to a Tsunami, a 'tidal wave' of solar radiation generated by a Solar Flare on the sun's surface. Billions of tons of plasma are blasted into space by a 'boiling up' of Hydrogen/helium inside the sun, it is blasted out millions of miles above the sun's surface, and most of it collapses back onto the surface again but some goes on out at speeds up to 1,000Km a second into space. That radiation is what dictates the "K Index" and if there is a high index it ******* up your radio/TV, Ships and aircraft compasses, reception, it can kill Cosmonauts if they do not have their space suits on, literally frying them with X-rays. By the time it (the radiation "wave") has traveled 93 million miles to Earth it has weakened to a certain extent, clouds reflect it, so does the sea and Polar Ice-caps, but where it gets through it plays havoc with birds and machinery, and upsets the earth's geomagnetic fields. Usually the arrival is spread out over a 3-hour period, and if that period arrives before liberations take place, no ill results from it. If it happens after the birds are well down the way home, the same happens, but if it arrives just as liberations take place then the majority of birds cannot navigate, some do, but most can't. After the wave is over the birds recover, but by then they may well have had three or more hours batting round like nutters over strange territory, scared, frightened and hopelessly lost. It happens to wild birds too. So far I have not discovered any way of forecasting exactly when the "Wave" arrives, so lots of people get the idea that it is a load of hogwash because nothing seems to have happened. What we do know is that it takes roughly three days from the eruption of a CME ("Coronal Mass Ejection") to its arrival on earth, but the speed at which it travels makes hours of difference of arrival times. If the "wave" is a big heavy one, we have a high "K Index" figure, but from 1 to 4 most birds can manage, above 4 to a maximum of 9 they can't. I have explained all this so many times and get a bit pee'd off when jokers take the mickey, so now I am content to let them find out for themselves. That way they may learn, but I don't hold my breath. If your birds can and do cope with a high "K" figure then breed from those that make good times, you will breed better ones (navigation wise) thereby. Cheers. Worth reading, Bilco's words
yeboah Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 dont know m8 timed 3 on the dot i think, not sure of the miles should be approx 321.will need to wait me thinks. :) The velocity timed at 3 at 321 mls would be 1141-33 at 320 mls would be 1137-77 this is only on dead minutes and miles so looks good to win
