have isolated a stock hen today, this morning she fed with the rest seemed OK,

went in the loft this evening and she was lying in the corner of the floor she

could flap her wings but legs seemed like paralysis she seemed alert enough her

cock I killed on sat with the same symptoms she was still feeding 1 youngster

and that was only her 2nd nest.? any help would be appreciated.the vets in this

area are not to good, they just guess the same as me.

Have you tried giving her same form of calcium,I had a cock the same a couple of seasons ago,gave him some osteocare via. a syringe and was OK. the following day.

you could sent her droppings to be tested that would be my first port of call

 

i take it fresh grit is provided

grit always in use, if she goes the same way as her mate there wont be

enough time to send of droppings.his deterioration was so fast.

if they were flying out i would say the have ate summit they shouldent, ie:bin poisoned if flying out check whats in your garden and see what thay are pecking at.

just a thought.

i lost 4 in 2 days very similar to yours

when i picked them up they felt like deadweight and dead within 24 hours

they had been picking about the neighbours garden

and eaten something

either rat/mouse poison or slug pellets

 

stopped them going into their garden and had no more problems

i would try calcium tablet first should be back on her feet in days but get droppings tested anyway to be sure

We had this in our club a few years ago, went to tom pennycott at vet centre in Ayrshire

he diagnosed as Parathyphoid an prescribed Baytril, cleared up instantly no more dead birds

Go to your Vet and ask for BAYTRIL.
