Severiano Ballesteros has died. R.I.P.

Spanish golf legend Severiano Ballesteros dies, aged 54

MAY 7, 2011 •

THE golfing legend Seve Ballesteros has passed away at his home in the northern Spanish town of Pedreña in Cantabria after a battle against cancer.

The five-time Major winner had undergone four operations and chemotherapy since collapsing at Madrid airport in 2008.

The 54-year-old won the Open three times, the Masters twice and helped Europe win the Ryder Cup four times before captaining them to victory at Valderrama in 1997.

He also received the BBC’s lifetime achievement award at the Sport’s Personality of the Year event in 2009.

Last month, fellow pro Phil Mickelson decided on a Spanish menu for the champions’ dinner at the Masters in Augusta in honour of Ballesteros
