No, that is not true, most owners are more than pleased to have their birds reported when missing,If you can water and supply seed or rice would help the bird, If you can read the full No. we could trace the owner, Thanks for your help

Hi, thanks for reporting the lost pigeon. In answer to your question, NO! We don't kill them if they don't make it home under their own steam. I have a loft half full of injured pigeons that will never race again but they are looked after every bit as well as the ones that are still racing. In my loft, when they can’t race again they are promoted to pet, I now have lots of pets mainly due to the RSPB’s policy of over protection of birds of prey.

I started typing before your reply was posted, it's good to see you also gave a good answer to the question.

feed it in the cat cage so you can catch it and get the full ring number ,

If you can post the ring number it will be much easier to trace the owner.

thanks for reporting the pigeon once you have picked the bird up if you look on both wings you might see a telephone number stamped on one or more of the feathers

The owner was contacted he said he had flown 160 miles, asked me to get him to fly off and he would go home. He said he would retire the bird, the bird flew off and now his come back

Welcome to the sport, you're now a fancier as you have him flying out, seriously though, how far away is the owner from you? perhaps a couple of more days rest and feed he will go home as he is quite an oldie, Thanks for your help.

About 15 miles I got the feeling the owner wasn't that bothered about him said he had been missing a week

That's very strange that a pigeon of that age is lost only 15mls.from home, I'm sad to hear the owner didn't seem that interested, most of us would have come to collect the bird, what area are you, we might be able to get a genuine fancier to pick the bird up from you

Good on you John, I'm over run with pets now but they still have a job to do. I float eggs to them and they are all fantastic 'pumpers'. There were five Fed positions in the Forres club this week so we are all really chuffed. Well done to Stewart for topping & third & seventh and for Ronnie of Elgin for coming second and fourth. Couldn’t have happened to two nicer people. Bill (we train together) and myself are just happy to get into the top 30. It's not often the lofts in the West win!

I don't know who the fancier is but that's this kind of attitude that makes non-fanciers think we all don't care. I might be mad but I've had birds reported in Stirling and Edinburgh and jumped in the car to collect them. Courier would have been much cheaper but maybe I'm just too soft.
