sapper756 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Libya's No-Fly Zone: What Does It Mean? The United Nations Security Council has authorised a no-fly zone over Libya to stop Colonel Gaddafi's assault on civilians http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2011/Mar/Week3/15953108.jpg Q. What forces would be involved? A. Western countries have significant military assets nearby, including carriers in the Mediterranean, a large US air base in Italy and a large British air presence on the island of Cyprus. Gulf or Arab League countries have warships and fighter aircraft but have shown little inclination of deploying these outside their region and some are distracted by Bahrain's crisis. If the US chooses not to get involved, Britain and France possibly have the military capabilites to mount a limited no-fly zone or maritime exclusion zone. Canada has already said it will send warplanes to assist in the enforcement of the resolution
Guest homestead Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 it will probably send oil prices up again. With our troops already tied up in Iran and Afganistan i dont think we could commit any sizeable force so it would be left to the RAF. With a despot like Gaddafi and his sons incharge i would not like to predict anything so lets hope he will see sence. Remember Iran and the swamp tribes and there uprising Sadam tried to wipe them out so i can see this happening here with Gaddafi to anyone who opposes him. Keep our troops out let the Arab states sort him out.

Saddam moved on the Marsh Arabs after the 1st Gulf war ended - IMO that was the Allied Forces big mistake, they should have gone all the way then - instead we left these people to their fate. Saddam diverted / damned the rivers feeding the Marsh area - the size of Britain - and turned it into desert, destroying the peoples way of life. There was a prog on TV recently about an Iraqi engineer in exile in America returned after Saddam was deposed, and set about restoring the former Marsh area. 5 years later around half of Marsh has been restored, the wildlife and the people have returned, reversing an ecological and humanitarian disaster.
Guest IB Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 More than just a no-fly zone. Military action sanctioned to protect civilian lives.
geordie1234 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 once again we have to get involved in other countries affairs what next are we going to bahrain saudi araiba

Guest IB Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Heard a story that Bin Laden was dead - killed right back at beginning of Afghanistan war by US special forces. West just keep using his name to engender fear in us simple folks so we'll agree to anyfink..
Guest IB Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 How good is your geography of the area? We tried this at work today. Drag the name of the country and drop it where you think it is:- http://www.rethinkingschools.org/just_fun/games/mapgame.html
sapper756 Posted March 18, 2011 Author Report Posted March 18, 2011 All these current conflicts that our brave men and woman are fighting in, apart from the terrible and unacceptable loss of lives, they must also be taking a lot of money to support, how long can we maintain this, considering the poor state our countries finances are in?
geordie1234 Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 I once nearly signed up for the Army ok and at that time i wanted to fight for my country not every other country! These guys in the forces must feel let down
Roland Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 It means we have decided to pinch their oil. If one wants to do 'Humane' and good... Dafur / Zimbar ... Don't need to name 20 -30 or more really eh! For there are countless countries mistreating and randomly killing their own. Or ethnic killings amounting to MILLIONS dying which we could help... but there no wage there.... but they have no Oil, Drugs, Gas Minerals etc. etc. Besty thing really id the realism that only 0.06 of this country benefit.... The true money people. THE Masses still are fodder to boost their incomes and NOTHING gets past down.
Roland Posted March 18, 2011 Report Posted March 18, 2011 Of course the AIRFORCE are limited (Convienently) in just what they can do ... so our troops will have to go in and Marshall law the Oil ... sorry did I say Oil , I should say thge people till they can get a proper geverment in place lol
