Rooster J. Cogburn Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 Got 20 in the nest just now in the stock end. They're all within 3 days of each other and are coming along nicely.A few fancy coloured yins this year There was a pair of eggs didn't hatch One of my favourite cocks as well *shakes head*.Hes a bit of a mare when it comes to sitting his turn and its not been the warmest.Given him and his hen something to feed though and hes calmed down a bit. Will see how hes goin come the next pair of eggs, may have to float them. As for the racers-the first of the eggs from my yearlings I've picked to breed from are due to hatch this weekend, some weather for it.The 2 year olds laid on the 5th and the 6th so they've still a bit to go.
big blue bar Posted March 11, 2011 Report Posted March 11, 2011 not been a bad start for us we have only had 2 clear eggs to date . all hatch no probs . 23 weaned and starting to take a flutter round the loft .10 more ready to come away middle of next week . team almost full
Guest IB Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Mine are all down on eggs now. I'm more disciplined this year - had decided when pairing on taking from only 11 pairs, then later on, as usual, added another 2 pairs as 'to try them too'. Well today its back down - to 10 pairs - and I've binned the other 10 pairs of eggs + an extra one. I had one pair lay 3 eggs. I've heard about it before, e.g on the forum, but its a first for me.
Guest challengerlofts Posted March 15, 2011 Report Posted March 15, 2011 Hows the members breeding went so far?? Mines i would say has been quite crap I have had 4 eggs broken and only 7 on 11 pair sitting on eggs the first eggs are due this weekend! I think the eggs are being broke because they are only yearling's so heres hoping they all hatch out Quite not good and late for me. Could be, because of the weather. And I think not a good idea as well when I transfer the eggs to yearling's nest.
K J Young Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 paired stock birds up on 19th dec 2010, 19 pairs , all laid within 10 days and have 35 youngsters from 1st round . Then split them up, repairing them this weekend.

Floated eggs this morning, discovered I have 1 clear. Plan B, will allow one stock pair to go straight to their 2nd round..
Rooster J. Cogburn Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 A lot of the stock hens have been laying their 2nd round of eggs over the last 2 or 3 days. The ybs in the nest aren't too far away now, will be getting ready to shift them shortly.

Guest Hjaltland Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 I put my dozen of pairs together mid Feb.. all goin well except for two pair which have no laid yet... reasons for not laying.. goodness knows, they seem fit enough, one hen's a yearling and one a two yrld. There was a fair bit of fighting by the two pair concerned so I'm puttin it down to stress...
