GET USED ENGINE OIL ON THE LOFT IF THE WOOD IS POROUS BUT OBVIOUSLY YOU CANT PUT IT OVER GLOSS PAINT BUT IF I BOUGHT A NEW WOODEN LOFT THE NOO I WOULDNAE HESITATE IN PUTTING OIL ON IT AS IT PROTECTS AND BRINGS THE WOOD UP LOOKING BRILLIANT AND YOU WILL GET IT FOR NOWT FAE ANY GARAGE AS IT COSTS THEM TO GET RID OF IT :egyptian:

Back in the 60's lofts seemed to be painted every colour under the sun with stripes, think back in them olden days when there were so many lofts, fanciers thought birds needed help in picking out which loft was their own. :emoticon-0140-rofl:

Then along came Councils and planning restrictions and everything had to be the same to blend in with its surroundings. :emoticon-0136-giggle:

My dads loft was multi-coloured cos he built it himself from wood recycled from the tenements being knocked down over the back. Don't think he knew what paint was, but when we moved into a council house, the existing loft there was red & white and looked smart. So within a year or two, I'd painted ours green & white. I think it being two of natures colours it blended into the garden great.

So when I got my first loft in my own home, that was painted green & white. Still didn't stop neighbours complaining about it.

Well, today its a brick garage, external parts done in same Jacobean Teak stain as the other garages & houses. Folk drive by, they don't know there's a loft there.
