Guest spin cycle Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Do you not like GM spin? hate it m8
billt Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 hate it m8I think it's the way to go, they're only speeding up the process that we've been doing for years, where in nature would you find a racing pigeon, it doesn't exist, we've created it like most other domestic animals

Guest spin cycle Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 BSE was created by greed, introducing rubbish into cattle feed, I think if the GM merchants created a pigeon that won every week I might buy into that greed or shortcut? some scientist said 'ultra heat treating meat & bone was expensive....a cocktail of chemicals would do"...except they didn't .....now another scientist promises us a 'flu resistant chicken'.....but why is this needed ??? good husbandry and secure bio-security at our ports is better. the assumption is that it will be a normal chicken will be given flu resistance...but IMO there will be a trade off elsewhere. for example the bird will be flu resistant..yes....but could it still carry the virus?? if so it could carry it unaffected and pass it on to other non-resistant types/wild birds...disaster.
JohnQuinn Posted January 13, 2011 Report Posted January 13, 2011 Doos canny get it or pass it on to other birds which is really my only interest in Bird Flu, as for chickens?? they are for eating and can be replaced with any number of Fowl, doos are doos and canny be replaced by anything. Also if scientists spent more time looking for ONE OFF vaccines for bird diseases of all types they wouldn't need to modify the genetics of anything. jmo
Guest IB Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 I think its a strange choice of disease to want resistance against, there must surely be more prevalent economic diseases? And a cheaper option - look closely at the way they keep these animals .
Fair Play Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Is that not the same place that cloned "Dolly The Sheep"
Guest IB Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Is that not the same place that cloned "Dolly The Sheep" Yep, Roslin Institute is part of Edinburgh University. Strange thing, Dolly was euthanised because it had amongst other things, a viral disease?
Diamond dave Posted January 14, 2011 Report Posted January 14, 2011 Never mind bird flu - perhaps they could do the same for Paramyxo virus. We vacinate for it every year but you don't classify that as being GM - but I can't see the difference.
