Guest asha Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I have seen same basic design flaws in other bought lofts, major problem will be water gaining enter from small roof/drop above windows, felt will make it worse, will have to pull felt off, replace with a small gauge roof profile sheeting of some sort, with soakers upstand at dropholes bottoms, while at it reroof with same sheets, allowing for at least300ml overhang all around, including front, birds will still learn to drop under unerhang on front, hope this helps before problems start,as they certainly will, while at it ,several 300ml vents along bottom of loft may just make it habitable for whichever type of birds you are thinking of putting i there.
PATTY BHOY Posted December 18, 2008 Author Report Posted December 18, 2008 32x8x 4 sections,corridor along back

Yep, I would go further and say that too many manufactured factory lofts have very many floors as Asha stated. Other comments added by me would be an Over lapping roof all that way around. All Roofs would have to slope to the front. A Flapp that drops shut, when needed, over ALL and any Wires. Also 'Air Circulation'! Air / Breeze would have to hit the back of the compartments at the back middle and then go up through the centre roof! The drag and circulation would have to be so as to Circulate and leave no stagnent corners, shell / perchers etc. Much more of course.. But it is a loverly loft all the same ...Yet I'll wager that there will be quite a few alterations come end of next race season.
Guest spin cycle Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 blimey hope asha and roland never do a critique of my loft...its only the rain driving in the joints that keeps the wood swollen to keep them standing up (bunny)(bunny) ...pigeons love it though........even so after 3 years of making do perhaps i need something better...any chance of a swap ?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 well when we put birsds in it we will let you know if we like it

Its not the loft but whats in it. The late Jake Cotterill won a very nice posh loft and gave his original loft away to a friend just down the lane, he always said to me that was one of if not the biggest mistake he ever made with his birds.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 thats very true valance the late des powell has loft been standing 60 years still is he put birds in new loft all went pear shape put um back in old one back to normal strange aint it
Roland Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 Overton, unbeatable at ALL distance. Kept them in a Ole coal shed. It had a wire cage door and a tree actually growing through it. Yes a few boards made it a draft proof etc. 1952! £80

Yes a few boards made it a draft proof etc. 1952! £80 would nigh buy a house. That's what he paid for a new state of the art one with many great flandangles like sliding trays for easy cleaning etc. It stood where his ole coal shed once stood! Never ever took even another card and packed up defeated in 1959!
Guest Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 its not the loft its whats in it.i have no fancy lofts but still win the federation.

Lennut Tar Posted December 19, 2008 Report Posted December 19, 2008 32x8x 4 sections, corridor along back Well done !!!!!!!, I congratulate you Big time on your effort etc "It's a beauty" & most of us would be very proud to have such a loft in our yard. Unfortunately !!!!!!!!!!!! (smile smile) reality for many of us here, does not place us etc within a bulls roar, of your little palace. PS, mine is somewhat like the leaning tower of pizza, it's that old sadly. Enjoy
