Wiley Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Now breeding is coming along, what do you feel is the best type to use? What do you find is the best nesting material? And any general tips. Myself I like the clay type nest bowl, with a nest felt, and pine needles and tobacco stalks. Also i raise the bowl slightly to allow air flow, however heard that the airluxe nestbowls are class and was considering using them.
greenlands Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Hi Wiley,I use the clay nest pans with wheat straw and broken tobacco stalks.I also put a daily newspaper under the pan, makes it easier to clean them out.
Guest IB Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 It's the German nest bowl (boddy&ridewood) with open mesh bottom for me + nest felt.
Guest Tooshy Boy Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 USE THE CLAY ONES I WRAP THREE SHEETS OFNEWS PAPER ROUND THE BOWLS AND NEST FELTS AND COVER THE WHOLE NEST BOX WITH NEWS PAPER. CHANGE IT EVERY DAY ...///
JohnQuinn Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 I use clay bowls and tobacco stocks, i put a cardboard box inside my nest boxes and change it between nests. I know some people on deep littter simply put an inch of litter on the nest box floors with no bowl used. Doesn't seem to have any adverse affects but my worry with it is splayed legs so i use the bowls.
sapper756 Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Clay nest bowls with nest felts and straw for me, all sitting on plastic grills to enable fresh air get below the bowlshttp://forum.pigeonbasics.org/public/style_emoticons/default/wink.gif

Rooster J. Cogburn Posted October 26, 2010 Report Posted October 26, 2010 Watched some of the old "simply the best" videos the other day.A lot of top Scottish lofts on them including the great Dale Newcombe.Found it quite interesing to find out that he didn't give his pigeons nest bowls just provided them with materials to build their nest wherever they wanted in the box or on the floor.
