lenton1163 Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I've just put them in every section of my loft 3 inches above floor with a very thin layer of easi bed underneath lift them and clean every 14 days so far think they are great

Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 A fancier once said to me grills are for the lazy fancier l, the same guys loft looked like it hadn't been scraped out in 2 year lol Here a wee story fae the past20 years ago a young fancier turns up at the club to fly young birds 8 as i remember after winning the first two races he asked a couple of the older but not wiser fanciers to pay him a loft visit.this took place the following week.they found a 6x4 garden shed with no windows at all.your lofts to dark son let the light and air in its free use it your birds look great they never won again after this visit. the fanciers went to help hand on hear,t but set him back years funny old game the doos

Roland Posted February 12, 2015 Report Posted February 12, 2015 I decided to go deep litter this last season. Best thing I've done fore some time that's for sure. I used to scrap every day. One time 20 years ago I had grills about two and feet high on a raised loft. Clean was a pain, and madw me lazy. So if I ever did that again I would have trays under neath for easy cleaning. Yes I - some don't because it can have dust etc. in the loft - add white / Staloan etc. Also garden lime. But every time I think the dust is due to rise, or start to get up, I take out most and in it leaving the dry droppings. Costs about £2/3 tops per week. Many don't clear it out year in a year out. Bedding in I spray a good disinfection over it straight off. But feel maybe that dust may be well be it's only draw back. JMO

Guest Gareth Rankin Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 hopefully he made a decision over 4 years ago ,rather waiting till now Andy it only took 3 years to have them installed. lol, just clicked on that i started this thread, have grills in the stock loft and yb loft, wouldn't be without them as it makes life so much easier, i use a cat litter below the grills. Old bird racing loft is still wooden floor which i prefer due to keeping dust to a minimal, the floors are cleaned once or twice a day which is really no problem as racing pigeons on widowhood/celibate produce very little droppings compared to that of pigeons that are breeding/ sitting eggs.
WHITTY Posted February 16, 2015 Report Posted February 16, 2015 I HAVE HAD WOODEN GRILLS FOR 30YEARS NOW 6INCHES ABOVE THE FLOOR CLEAN THEM OUT EVERY TWO WEEKS BRUSH THE FLOOR WITH CRESOTE THE REAL STUFF NEVER GET ANY DUST OR BEASTIES THE BIRDS LOOK GREAT WITH THE FUMES WOULD NEVER DO ANY THING ELS CHEERS
