Guest geordiejen Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 i have a hen thats gone off food, her droppings are wet and only yellow, she doesnt seem too happy but not sitting blown or listless.ive tried metronizadole but made her vomit and she is now on fural but im thinking it might not be bacterial.maybe a yeast infection or a lack of some sort of vitamin.

Tony C Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Whatever the problem is its effecting the digestive system big time. I've seen droppings like this with a pigeon that was infested with worms also seen an egg bound hen with similar droppings. I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to what the problem is here,
Guest geordiejen Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 trying her for cocci now.not a happy pigeon but no sign of any fever.

REDCHEQHEN Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 You should have took her to the vet - chopping and changing the medication is not going to do her any good at all - you are not giving her a course of anything If you took her to a vet he would give you advice on what to give in the meantime - which might change once cultures and sensitivity tests are done I hope she is quarantined and away from the rest of your birds

Tell me this, what good will this hen be if you are able to get her health back? The Truest saying in pigeon racing is GOOD DOOS ARE NEVER SICK!! Its difficult enough to win with birds who are robust and healthy with no health issues let alone one who has been doctored just to stay alive. You can't breed from it either, because chances are, it will breed the same weakness into its youngsters. jmo's

Does Usain Bolt Never get Sick?
JohnQuinn Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Not life threateningly sick, i'm sure of that, but he probably gets one eye cold
gulkie Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 first of all stop treating blindly ,send some droppings of to betested . am sure there is someone on here that can give you a testingcentre. I dispose of sick birds they will never make good racers
Guest geordiejen Posted September 2, 2010 Report Posted September 2, 2010 its not a racing pigeon its a horseman pouter.as for taking it to the vet ive done this in the past with no results soon enough.i know the vet will give me baytril and this is all he can give for me.ive also took dropping samples to be tested and it too 3 weeks to come back so thats no good either.probably the best thing to do is to give her baytril and see what happens.the vet also told me i should get in touch with an avian vet and the closest is in falkirk.lol what a joke man.
