had one like this a few weeks back just locked him in a nest box for 2 weeks till i seen him starting to put his own weight on it he will stand on 1 leg till the other 1 heals sufficiently enough,i put a 3 pint drinker in the nestbox and only changed his water every 3 days to avoid disturbing him same with food enough to last him for 3 days at a time this bird is now back training

I've never had any luck with broken legs above the knee joint, below they quite easy to strap but above always seems to be worse and the higher they are the harder they are. If they dont heal properly the legs protrude when the bird flies, not a lot of good when racing, can also be a problem sitting eggs too.

Depends what you call successful, early days yet. Same as any birds that suffer an injury they always seem to go out in the end, some will be ok, but not many.

we got a good cock who has just gone into the stock loft he broke his leg as a yb just below the elbow/knee joint, he was left in a box to heal it didnt really heal great as its not perfect but he went on to win races and take plenty of prizes, we call him broken leg, and as other posts say you could see it when he was flying.

If you read my original post i did say above the knee. I've had birds with breaks both sides ot the knee, i have never done any good with a bird that had never raced prior to the break, and never done any good with a bird that broke its leg above the knee, raced or not.

I'm sure some do go on to do well, but i know plenty fanciers that have had birds do the same.
